Back on the bike

Tuesday: customs gave me the all clear to import the bike by 9am. Hardly any difficult questions!
Shit hit the fan when we found the bike had not reached Denver Airport. Stroppy customer syndrome got it delivered an hour or so later. We unpacked it but were struggling till the loan of a claw hammer popped it out of the crate.
Then it was up Mnt. Evans to see if we had altitude sickness on the highest road in the world. Temp dropped from 30 deg C to 3 in about 30 minutes.
The picture is a mountain goat we saw at the top.

A day in Denver

We arrived Sunday night at Denver Airport where a very helpful border guard explained we could not pick up our bike till Tuesday as Monday is a public holiday(memorial day), so, on reflection, perhaps not so helpful.
Went sight seeing in Denver town on Monday and got talking to a couple of motorbike cops and the photo is the nearest I got to riding a bike!

Packed and almost ready

Just packed a bag, everything for a month but whatever we take we need to carry round on the bike for a month, so inside this bag are two bags that fit in the panniers and two armoured bike jackets that we will have to wear when riding the bike.  The rest of our riding kit, helmets , boots trousers and gloves etc. went out in the crate with the bike.  The bag is quite large and is pretty heavy weighing nearly 20Kg (BA's limit is 23Kg).  The bike should have arrived at Denver at 8:00 this morning.  There is a chance we can get the bike cleared by customs/border control when we arrive tomorrow, if so we will get it from the cargo shed on Monday morning.  If not we'll have to wait till Tuesday to clear it through customs and get it from the cargo shed as Monday is a public holiday (Memorial Day) and customs offices are closed!  Now just waiting to book seats and print boarding passes which we can't do until 24 hours before departure.

Intro

This is a blog of our biking trip in the Rocky Mountains just to keep family and friends informed of our progress.  So far the bike is with James Cargo and will be air freighted shortly.  We are expecting a few photos once the bike is crated and on its way and I'll post those when I get them. The picture above is our bike taken in the Pyrenees on a previous trip
